On 25th May 2015 African countries world wide celebrated Africa Day in commemoration of African Unity. Africa Day came as a result of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on 25th May 1963. On this day, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African stated signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
In 1991, the OAU established the African Economic Community, and in 2002 the OAU established its own successor, the African Union. However, the name and date of Africa Day has been retained as a celebration of African unity.
Joining the rest of African countries on this day, NBC decided to celebrate the day in style by dressing in African attire and bringing home cooked African food which was sold to colleagues and funds to be donated to a women charity in support of this year’s Africa Day theme being to empower women.
The pictures show staffs in different branches and head office as they came together in unity to commemorate this day. It was cheerful and delightful! As one of the staffs happily attested.
