Dar es Salaam, Tuesday 9th September 2008: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has donated educational equipment to schools in Kagera region in its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program which focuses on education.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, NBC’s Area Manage, Lake Zone, Kitumari Massawe said, “NBC realizes and values the importance of having an appropriate learning environment for our children, thus the Banks donation.  We need to build a sound foundation for our children future and nation as a whole.  With a good education we can achieve this that is why we need to continuously invest in improving education of our children.”  Mr. Kitumari said this during the official handover of 150 cement bags to Kagera Regional Commissioner on behalf of Kagera Education Fund.    

He further went on the say; the Banks staffs at Bukoba Branch will in the next few weeks donate building material to two schools, Kitunda Primary School in Muleba District and Gera Secondary School in Missenyi District respectively.  This is a result of the Banks staff CSR program.”

The program, which was initiated in 2007 when NBC celebrated its 40th anniversary, aims to engage the bank’s staff to actively participate in projects directed towards improving the communities in which they live. This donation is part of a five month programme that will see NBC staff take part in educational projects throughout the country worth over Tsh. 120 million. These projects seek to plough profits back into the communities that the bank serves. The NBC CSR policy focuses on three key areas namely Education, Health and Job Creation. The adopted theme for the NBC staff CSR initiatives, for 2008, is Education.

Through the 2008 NBC CSR initiative, NBC staff, throughout the country, will actively engage in 70 community projects focusing on education.
