20 Nov 2012: NBC yesterday launched a customer service campaign which will stretch to the end of November and involve the entire NBC Leadership team. The campaign known as Leadership in action, I CARE, focuses on improving service provision to NBC customers. It is a service focus day for the NBC Leadership Team.

17 Oct 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) yesterday rewarded the final round of winners of the Dabo Mshiko deposit campaign which has been running countrywide since July 18th 2012 and has seen 30 lucky winners double their deposits. The Handover was done at the NBC Head Office, where four lucky winners from Dar were given their prize money, while others from upcountry branches were rewarded at their respective branches. This round saw winners emerging from Mwanza, Tanga as well as Songea Regions.

08 Oct 2012: On 19th July 2012, the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Commerce announced that Mr Lawrence Mafuru, the Managing Director of National Bank of Commerce had been requested and accepted to go on leave in order to allow investigations into irregularities allegedly perpetrated at the Bank. The allegations which originated from a whistleblower report raised issues around irregular governance practices, fraud and corruption against the NBC Executive Management team. Driven by the values of the Bank and need to maintain high standards of good corporate governance the Board of Directors of National Bank of Commerce initiated thorough investigations into all the issues raised by the whistleblower with a view of establishing the validity of the allegations for appropriate actions to be taken.

17 Jul 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) today has launched a two and half month campaign aimed at encouraging banking customers to build a saving culture by depositing money into their accounts and offering them an opportunity to double their money. The Deposit and Win campaign is known as Dabo Mshiko. The campaign was launched at the NBC Corporate branch being part of the banks celebrations to mark 45 years of banking excellence, where several lucky customers will be rewarded with double the amount deposited in their accounts.

04 Jul 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) today has launched a two and half month campaign for their Islamic Banking customers, in order to identify winners who will win two fully paid packages for two people to perform Hajj in October 2012 . The campaign was launched at the NBC Head Office as part of the banks 45 years banking service celebration, where customers will be rewarded with various gifts and prizes in celebration of the occasion.

20 Jun 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has today handed over a cheque worth USD 70,000 to KPMG and Mwananchi Communications. Ltd (MCL) being the bank’s contribution to supporting the Top 100 Mid-sized companies survey which is being conducted by the firms. The Survey, which is an annual event, was first launched in early 2011 and usually culminates in a gala Night where the Top 100 mid-sized companies in the country are awarded.

22 Feb 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) today handed over a cheque worth TZS 21.4m/- to the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) in support of the lady captain golf tournament taking place on Sunday 26th February 2012. The annual tournament aims to identify the most qualified lady golfer who will steer the team to the victory, as the team captain for the rest of the year.

21 Feb 2012: Following the enactment, by the Government, of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2006 and regulations made thereunder, and issuance of a public notice by the Bank of Tanzania in September 2011, it is a statutory obligation for the banks to obtain and maintain records and detailed particulars of their customers.

14 Feb 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has today handed over a cheque worth TZS 1 billion to the Tanzania Mortgage Refinance Co. Ltd (TMRC) being acquisition of a 10.87% stake in TMRC. TMRC is a financial institution owned by the banks with the sole purpose of supporting banks to do mortgage lending by refinancing banks’ mortgage portfolios.

18 Oct 2011: IN a move aimed at providing more convenient services to its clients, NBC Limited, has launched a MasterCard that will enable customers to access financial services globally.

28 Sep 2011: At least 225,212 people, mostly women and children in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, have received medical care through mobile clinics, deployed by the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) since 2002. The Bank's Managing Director, Lawrence Mafuru said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the clinics were also useful during the Medical Association of Tanzania Health Camp in the Lake Zone Area; the 2003 Africa Malaria Day' the 2007 Mass Drug Administration against Filarlasis (Matende) and also during the Gongo la Mboto bomb blasts when the Clinics were on site providing medical care.

09 Aug 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has introduced Corporate and Business Islamic Current Accounts for businesses that would like to operate under Islamic rules.The move follows the Islamic banking savings account for individuals, which has been successful since it was launched in May last year.

05 May 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has supported the Media Council on its Excellence in Journalism Awards (EJAT) event that took place on 3rd May 2011, on World Press Freedom Day. NBC sponsored the Economic and Business Award in Print and Electronic media segment at TZS 5,000,000.

14 Mar 2011: The greatest long-term potential to improve the quality of life of the Tanzanian population lies in agriculture. This is highlighted by the government’s initiatives i.e. Kilimo Kwanza. The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has agriculture as one of key growth areas but also understands that financing agriculture comes with a number of challenges i.e. understanding the risks associated with agriculture. Agriculture is unique in that it has two majors risk categories i.e. production and market risk. The production risk can be managed and mitigated through government and private sector initiatives but the market risk can only be mitigated by our understanding of the market and how well we manage value chain of the specific commodity.

07 Mar 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) through its Corporate Social Responsibility Fund has donated TZS 10 million to Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi recently. The donation was made at the hospital’s 40th Anniversary fundraising dinner whereby Archbishop Alex Malasusa was the Guest of Honour.

28 Feb 2011: The National Bank of Commerce has joined other well-wishers and supporters by donating materials worth TShs 5.5 million to victims of Gongo la Mboto bomb blasts which occurred last month in Dar es Salaam. NBC's Communication's Consultant, Robi Matiko-Simba said the bank donated100 mattresses worth Tsh 3.5 million and it also sponsored mobile clinics to provide health services to the victims of the bomb blast of free of charge.

11 Feb 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has recorded a total income of TZS 176.5bn for the twelve months ended 31st December 2010. This represents a 7% increase year on year compared to TZS 164.2bn recorded for the same period in 2009. This modest revenue growth is mainly a result of strong growth of our asset book which grew by 10% during the year 2010 resulting into a total interest income of TZS 123.9bn. Our asset book is made of both loans and advances to private sector and investment in government securities. Interest income contributed 70% of our income while non-interest income was 30% of the total income. Our non-interest income was driven by Treasury income as well as service fees and commissions.

13 Oct 2010: In its efforts to provide innovative products to its clients that can help them to better manager their financial risks, National Bank of Commerce (NBC) last week launched FX Options derivatives to its corporate clients. The product aims at assisting corporate; especially the likes of exporters and importers, to minimize their foreign exchange risk. "We have seen a lot of volatility with the Tanzanian Shilling recently resulting into uncertainty to those with foreign exchange exposure and an the FX Options product is another hedging tool that our customers can use to minimize their FX risk, in addition to the already existing FX Forward Contract product" said Mr. Pius Tibazarwa, Head of Treasury at NBC during an interview.

09 Jul 2010: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has donated TZS 34 000,000 towards the construction of Tumanini University DSM College.

The donation under NBC's Colleagues Initiative which is the bank's ongoing CSR program was pledged by the bank's new MD Mr. Lawrence Mafuru during a fundraising dinner that was held at the Blue Pearl Hotel on Tuesday.

27 May 2010: Dr Mussa Assad, Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Commerce Ltd,a subsidiary of South African banking group Absa, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Mafuru, as the new Managing Director with effect from 1 June 2010. Mafuru who succeeds Christo de Vries, will also form part of the Absa Africa Executive Committee and sits on the NBC board.

26 May 2010: The National Bank of Commerce NBC has hosted a workshop today to introduce Islamic Banking to its current and potential clients in Zanzibar. Speaking during the workshop held at the Bwawani Hotel ………….. from NBC said it is key that clients and potential clients understand what the service is offering them and what makes it a better option for them, “NBC is always looking at ways to satisfy as many of our existing clients as possible while also opening the doors to others who may wish to join us. 17 May 2010: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has donated TSZ 2,500,000 towards the expansion of a mushroom growing project for Uyawenko Women’s Group in Dar es Salaam. The donation to UYAWENKO Women’s Group falls under NBC’s Colleagues Initiative which is the bank’s ongoing CSR program. It follows the banks move to adopt the group last year and assist them by financing their various projects.

The NBC Malengo account is a savings account that enables the account holder to deposit their money anytime but can only withdraw it once in a year and they earn compound interest every time they deposit money into their Malengo account.

The handing over ceremony was held at the Headquarters of Consolidating Holding Corporation, Dar es Salaam.

14 Aug 2007: The National Bank of Commerce has recently opened the first Express Pre - Fabricated Branch in Tanzania, in Mbagala ward Dar es Salaam. Mbagala ward is a highly populated area, which now enjoys having an NBC branch in the area. Located in Temeke district of Dar es salaam, Mbagala ward is rapidly growing as more and more residents and business people move into the area. NBC, true to its vision of bringing convenience to their customers, used the opportunity to open a fully fledged Express Pre - Fabricated Branch to cater for the financial requirements of the people in the area.
