NBC SPONSORS THE AFRICAN INSURANCE ORGANIZATION CONFERENCE
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has sponsored the 36th African Insurance Organization (AIO) Conference 2009 that will be officially opened by HE President Jakaya Kikwete on Monday May 25th 2009 at Ubungo Plaza. The sponsorship was made through the Association of Tanzania Insurers (ATI) to the tune of TZS 12 million. NBC Marketing Manager William Kallaghe stated that NBC came forward to sponsor the conference because of the close working relationships they have with insurance companies in the country. “NBC works closely with insurance companies through some of our products as a bank and we agreed to sponsor the conference because of the significance it holds for both the country and our customers who also use insurance” explained Mr. Kallaghe. This is the first time the AIO annual conference is being held in Tanzania and it is being organized by The Association of Tanzanian Insurers (ATI), Insurance Supervisory Department (ISD), and the Institute of Insurance of Tanzania (IIT). Chairman of the Organizing Committee Mr. Sanjay Suchak, who is also the Managing Director of Alexander Forbes (T), said the conference will bring over 700 insurers from the entire African continent to discuss the growth and challenges facing the insurance industry on the continent. “ATI partners with NBC in many business initiatives to ensure we offer quality services to our clients and we are grateful to NBC for coming forward to sponsor this important annual conference that will leave a mark in our country’s development” said Mr. Suchak. Founded in 1972 the AIO is a not-for profit organization recognized by many African governments and is funded by membership subscriptions and sponsorships with its secretariat based in Cameroon. AIO objectives are to promote and develop healthy insurance and reinsurance industries in Africa and to promote inter African cooperation.
