
NBC STAFF DONATE SCIENCE LABORATORY EQUIPMENT
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Corporate Banking staff made a donation of science laboratory equipment worth 2 million to Furaha Secondary School of Chanika in Dar es Salaam. The generous donation was made through the Colleague CSR initiative which is a brainchild of the ongoing NBC Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.Speaking on behalf of his colleagues NBC’s Head of Corporate Banking Yohane Kaduma reiterated the banks position when it comes to supporting education in the country. “Education is important for the development of any community and NBC and its employees are committed to supporting education initiatives like the science equipment we are handing over to you today” said Mr. Kaduma.The NBC Colleague CSR Initiative is part of the NBC CSR fund where every branch and directorate within NBC gets a certain amount of money each year to contribute to the community where they see a need. A total of 128 million was spent last year by NBC staff supporting projects in the communities they serve.Speaking after receiving the donation from NBC Furaha Secondary School Head teacher Jonas Ndereka said “Science subjects are very important simply because the world is shifting more towards technology and we need to keep up with the trend. We are grateful to NBC for this donation and it will go a long way in helping our pupils have a better understanding of science because they will now be able to do practical experiments”.Furaha Secondary school located in Chanika, a low income high density area of Dar es Salaam has a total of 332 students and the school’s performance in science subjects has been satisfactory and the students will write their first national exam next year in March.
