NBC PARTICIPATES IN AISEC’S 2009 CAREER FAIR
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) was among the participants in this year’s Career Fair organized by AISEC on 7th and 8th March held at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) main campus. The two-day event brought together over 30 participants representing various companies, organizations, and institutions with over 1500 students from higher learning institutions attending. NBC has in place a human resource program where it recruits 15 top performing university graduates and then fully sponsors their post graduate training in South Africa. The NBC’s graduate program developed in 2006 started to be implemented in 2007recruits graduates annually and offers them various posts at the bank. Speaking to students visiting the NBC stall at the fair, NBC’s Recruitment and Selection Manager Mr. Blasius Lupenza said that NBC in collaboration with the Faculty of Commerce at the University of Dar es Salaam have a special program whereby they pick top performing students and train them on various banking skills and offer them opportunities to work at the bank. “NBC is the number one graduate employer and our aim is to equip graduates with required skills and competence to work for the bank in key areas such as retail banking, auditing, credit risk management and treasury” added Mr. Lupenza. The two-day program of event consisted of seminars on academic skills and exhibitions. On the first day, there were workshops and trainings in which the participating companies and organizations conducted seminars and trainings on certain topics in relation to building capacity of the students. On the second day, participants had stalls in which they ran exhibitions on their profiles and products to all students and had a chance to interact with them the whole day. Speaking to the press AISEC University of Dar es Salaam’s Vice President External Relations Ms Edith James said that the career fair is gaining popularity among companies because 30 companies participated this year compared to 13 last year. “AISEC is an International Student organization and we have an Exchange Program where by graduates from other universities apply for training to work abroad, and companies that participate in the career fair also get the opportunity to recruit the students to work for them as per their demands” added Ms James. The Career Fair is an annual event organized by AIESEC in Tanzania that seeks to bring employers and prospective employees together through an informal but interactive gathering. Through this event a large number of companies are brought together in one location where students get to explore their career options. The first career fair was held in 2001 and it has continued to grow and gain popularity among companies and students through the years.

NBC Hands over Secondary School Library Building in Lindi
13 Dec 2012: THE National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has this weekend handed over a library building to Angaza Secondary School’s administration in Lindi Region as part of the banks Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives.
Speaking during a brief ceremony held at the schools compound, NBCs Managing Director Mr. Lawrence Mafuru said that education is one of the banks priority areas in its social responsibility agenda.
Six library buildings with a total cost of TZS 70m/- have already been renovated at different secondary schools in Tanzania and will soon be handed over to the respective schools administrations.
NBC Launches Leadership in action, I CARE, Campaign
20 Nov 2012: NBC yesterday launched a customer service campaign which will stretch to the end of November and involve the entire NBC Leadership team. The campaign known as Leadership in action, I CARE, focuses on improving service provision to NBC customers. It is a service focus day for the NBC Leadership Team.
NBC WRAPS UP DABO MSHIKO CAMPAIGN WITH 10 FINAL WINNERS
17 Oct 2012: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) yesterday rewarded the final round of winners of the Dabo Mshiko deposit campaign which has been running countrywide since July 18th 2012 and has seen 30 lucky winners double their deposits.
The Handover was done at the NBC Head Office, where four lucky winners from Dar were given their prize money, while others from upcountry branches were rewarded at their respective branches. This round saw winners emerging from Mwanza, Tanga as well as Songea Regions.
NBC Managing Director, Lawrence Mafuru reinstated after probe
08 Oct 2012: On 19th July 2012, the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Commerce announced that Mr Lawrence Mafuru, the Managing Director of National Bank of Commerce had been requested and accepted to go on leave in order to allow investigations into irregularities allegedly perpetrated at the Bank.
The allegations which originated from a whistleblower report raised issues around irregular governance practices, fraud and corruption against the NBC Executive Management team. Driven by the values of the Bank and need to maintain high standards of good corporate governance the Board of Directors of National Bank of Commerce initiated thorough investigations into all the issues raised by the whistleblower with a view of establishing the validity of the allegations for appropriate actions to be taken.
