NBC DONATES 30 MILLION TO CCBRT DISABILITY HOSPITAL
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) through its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program has made a donation of TZS 30 million to the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) disability hospital located in Msasani in Dar es Salaam. The donation is for 2 water sterilizers worth TZS 4 million and medical bills for disabled children to the tune of TZS 26 million. The CCBRT disability hospital offers services that aim at preventing impairments and disabilities, curing patients from disabilities and improving physical conditions of patients. In addition the CCBRT disability hospital provides Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) for HIV/AIDS patients. NBC Head of Retail Banking Johan Vermaas presented the cheque and inaugurated the water sterilizers and reiterate the noble work done by the hospital. “NBC is dedicated to helping in any way to improve the welfare of disabled children in making sure they get the right medical care. We are proud to be associated with a caring institution whose contribution to the wellbeing of disabled children is beyond measure” said Mr. Vermaas. NBC under its CSR program held an internal competition among its staff countrywide named “NBC CSR Colleague Competition” whereby each branch and department proposed a project which they thought was worth funding. All proposed projects were then brought forward to the NBC CSR Committee for evaluation. Three best projects were chosen and each project was awarded TZS 30 million. The awarded projects were the construction of a market place in Maneromango in Kisarawe; construction of a maternity waiting home in Karatu and the installation of water sterilizers and payment of medical services for disabled children at CCBRT. CCBRT’s Assistant CEO Haika Mawalla said “Our hospital treats and rehabilitates children with disabilities who come from very poor backgrounds and we depend on donations from well wishers like NBC to be able to continue offering our services for free. It is through such donations that we are motivated to continue providing medical services to ensure disabled children also lead a normal life.” This year NBC intends to spend over TZS 398 million on various CSR activities towards community projects in health, education and job creation. On health related projects, the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) referral hospital in Moshi in May was the first beneficiary of 2 surgical beds worth TZS 6 million.
