NBC LAUNCHES FAMILY FUNERAL SUPPORT COVER

Thursday, September 24, 2009: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) today launched a family funeral support cover that will be known as Rambi Rambi Plus. Rambi Rambi plus is a stand alone insurance cover that compensates the family of the insured person in the event of death.  It is the norm in Tanzania for the community to give contributions popularly known as Rambi Rambi to the bereaved family as a way of showing their condolences. The contributions are used to cover for the funeral expenses. NBC Head of Retail Banking Johan Vermaas while presiding over the launch of the product said “We are bank that is proud of our history and legacy as one of the oldest financial institutions in the country. We at NBC are once again offering still new products to our customers and Tanzanians at large amongst them being the family funeral support cover, that is the Rambi Rambi plus.”  The funeral cover will assist individuals’ pre plan and save for their funeral expenses. The cover has a variety of premium options that are offered to suit the needs and financial ability for a range of customers. The claim process has been simplified to make it easy for the deceased family and their next of kin. The proceeds are made available to the deceased account holder’s next of kin within 7 working days from the date of receipt of claim documents by NBC ltd. In May 2008, NBC launched an embedded funeral cover known as Rambi Rambi for all NBC ordinary saving account holders, single or joint, who are aged between 18 and 74 years. The initial cover per account was TZS 250,000 and has now been increased to TZS 500,000.

NBC DONATES 34M TSHS TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF TUMAINI UNIVERSITY DAR ES SALAAM COLLEGE
09 Jul 2010: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has donated TSZ 34 000,000 towards the construction of Tumanini University DSM College. The donation under NBC’s Colleagues Initiative which is the bank’s ongoing CSR program was pledged by the bank’s new MD Mr. Lawrence Mafuru during a fundraising dinner that was held at the Blue Pearl Hotel on Tuesday.


NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR NATIONAL BANK OF COMMERCE APPOINTED
27 May 2010: Dr Mussa Assad, Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Commerce Ltd,a subsidiary of South African banking group Absa, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Mafuru, as the new Managing Director with effect from 1 June 2010. Mafuru who succeeds Christo de Vries, will also form part of the Absa Africa Executive Committee and sits on the NBC board.


NBC HOSTS WORKSHOPS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT ISLAMIC BANKING
26 May 2010: The National Bank of Commerce NBC has hosted a workshop today to introduce Islamic Banking to its current and potential clients in Zanzibar. Speaking during the workshop held at the Bwawani Hotel ………….. from NBC said it is key that clients and potential clients understand what the service is offering them and what makes it a better option for them, “NBC is always looking at ways to satisfy as many of our existing clients as possible while also opening the doors to others who may wish to join us. It is our belief that through Islamic Banking we have managed to find a way to meet both goals.”


NBC SPENDS 2.5M TSHS TO FINANCE THE EXPANSION OF UYAWENKO WOMENS GROUP MUSHROOM GROWING PROJECT
17 May 2010: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has donated TSZ 2,500,000 towards the expansion of a mushroom growing project for Uyawenko Women’s Group in Dar es Salaam. The donation to UYAWENKO Women’s Group falls under NBC’s Colleagues Initiative which is the bank’s ongoing CSR program. It follows the banks move to adopt the group last year and assist them by financing their various projects.


NBC DONATES SEWING MACHINES WORTH 2.5 M TSHS TO UPENDO ALBINOS GROUP
14 May 2010: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) through its corporate social responsibility program has donated sewing machines worth 2.5 million Tshs to Upendo Albino’s Group in Vingunguti Dar es Salaam. Speaking during the handover ceremony at the Group center in Vingunguti, the NBC’s Marketing Consultant, Ms. Robi Matiko said “We are pleased to handover these Sewing machines that we believe will assist in the groups various activities to sustain itself and its activities.
