NBC KARIAKOO BRANCH DONATES SCHOOL BOOKS AND RENNOVATES DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR LUMUMBA PRIMARY SCHOOL
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Kariakoo Branch has renovated the drainage system at Lumumba Primary School as well donated school books. The entire donation is valued at TZS 2.500,000 and falls under the NBC Colleagues Initiative which is the bank’s ongoing CSR program. While speaking during the handover ceremony held at the school, NBC Kariakoo Branch Manager Mr. Richard Kombole said NBC hopes the new system will help to ensure a safer environment for the children to learn in: “For 15 years this school has had difficulties with the drainage system and this has presented a serious health risk to the teachers and students. It is our hope that this new system will safely transfer waste water to the correct outlet and prevent the spread of harmful diseases such as cholera and dysentery which could disrupt a student’s education. We also hope that the books will encourage the students even more to want to come to school and learn.” Said Mr. Kombole Speaking on behalf of the school and community surrounding Lumumba Primary school, the school’s head teacher Mr. Faridy Saiwaad thanked NBC for helping to solve one of the school’s largest problems. “By renovating our drainage system, NBC has shown the highest level of concern for our pupils. This drainage system has presented a high health risk as it often overflows which means our children are exposed to this dirty water. Various diseases have broken out because of this exposure and they have resulted in interruptions to the student’s learning. We are grateful to NBC because we now believe that this problem will become a thing of the past and our students will learn in an environment more conducive to their good health.” Said Mr. SaiwaadUnder the NBC Colleagues Initiative each bank branch and directorate is allocated TZS 2,500,000 to donate to any educational project that impacts the lives of many. This corporate social responsibility program aims at improving the quality of education in schools countrywide. NBC has spent over 180 million shillings towards education initiatives to help schools in the communities that the bank serves.
