NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR FOR NATIONAL BANK OF COMMERCE APPOINTED
Dr Mussa Assad, Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Commerce Ltd,a subsidiary of South African banking group Absa, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Mafuru, as the new Managing Director with effect from 1 June 2010.Mafuru who succeeds Christo de Vries, will also form part of the Absa Africa Executive Committee and sits on the NBC board.This certified Chartered Banker from the Chartered Institute of Banking (UK) and a Certified Treasury Practitioner – ACI Markets, has extensive knowledge and experience of the Tanzanian and broader East African banking industry.Prior to joining NBC, Mafuru spent almost a decade at Standard Chartered Bank in Tanzania. His experience includes four years in Global Markets, where he was Head of Sales, Rates and Foreign Exchange. In February 2009, Mafuru was appointed President of the ACI Financial Markets of Tanzania.About the appointment, the NBC Board said: “In search of the right candidate, we considered both internal and external candidates. Lawrence’s sound knowledge and experience stands him in good stead to continue steering the NBC ship. During his tenure as the Head of Treasury, he proved to be an invaluable member of the executive committee.”

NBC DONATES NEW MOBILE CLINIC
28 Sep 2011: At least 225,212 people, mostly women and children in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, have received medical care through mobile clinics, deployed by the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) since 2002.
The Bank's Managing Director, Lawrence Mafuru said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the clinics were also useful during the Medical Association of Tanzania Health Camp in the Lake Zone Area; the 2003 Africa Malaria Day' the 2007 Mass Drug Administration against Filarlasis (Matende) and also during the Gongo la Mboto bomb blasts when the Clinics were on site providing medical care.
NBC launches Corporate & Business Islamic Current Accounts
09 Aug 2011: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has introduced Corporate and Business Islamic Current Accounts for businesses that would like to operate under Islamic rules.The move follows the Islamic banking savings account for individuals, which has been successful since it was launched in May last year.
