NBC SPONSORS THE 2011 AFRICAN ECONOMIC FORUM - TANZANIA SUMMIT
NBC in partnership with ABSA Capital sponsored the 2011 African Economic Forum: Tanzania Summit which took place on 1st March 2011 at the Kilimanjaro Hotel Kempinski.
With President Kikwete entering his second term in office, international investors are keen to understand how the government’s plans will affect the climate for doing business. The country’s economy is still growing fast, yet it feels sluggish by comparison to its neighbours. Will a new team in government be able to deliver the reforms needed to tackle the challenges of poor infrastructure, weak skills, corruption and red tape? Will their efforts attract more outside investment? How exactly is the new cabinet going about the tasks of improving regional integration and developing the country's mineral and agricultural potential? What are international firms reporting about problems they face in developing revenues and market share?
The Summit was attended by senior policy makers and executives to discuss the most compelling emerging investment opportunities and analyze the risks facing those looking to expand their business during the next five years. The audience enjoyed an opportunity to quiz Tanzania’s leaders on their specific policy plans and to outline their expectations.
The Summit was chaired by Pratibha Thaker, Regional Director for Africa’s Economist Intelligence Unit and the Guest of Honour was Hon. Mizengo Pinda, Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania. NBC’S Managing Director Mr. Lawrence Mafuru was also one panelist’s at the summit.
