NBC Hands over Secondary School Library Building in Lindi

The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has this weekend handed over a library building to Angaza Secondary School’s administration in Lindi Region as part of the bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives. Speaking during a brief ceremony held at the school’s compound, NBC’s Managing Director Mr. Lawrence Mafuru said that education is one of the bank’s priority areas in its social responsibility agenda.Six library buildings with a total cost of TZS 70m/- have already been renovated at different secondary schools in Tanzania and will soon be handed over to the respective schools’ administrations.Mr. Mafuru said, “It is widely known that education is one of the fundamental pillars of the nation. We know that Tanzania can advance if, and only if her schools will be producing well educated students, equipped with all the required ‘tools’ in this world of science and technology.” He added, “When we speak about better education, we mean better buildings that meet students as well as their teachers’ needs and expectations, books and other equipment. There is no way you can acquire the best students, both in science and arts courses, from schools with inadequately equipped libraries.”Commenting on the NBC’s support to the renovations at Angaza and other schools’ in the country, the Managing Director added “As part of Barclays group, NBC has decided to support the construction of these libraries, being one of our key focus areas in community development projects, others of which include life skills training, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills.”Speaking on behalf of the Lindi Regional Commissioner, Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Mr. Thomas Sowani promised that the received asset would be well kept so as to be used not only by current Angaza students, but even those who will enroll at the school in the future.

Other schools which would benefit from NBC’s support include Uluguru Secondary School in Morogoro, Shelui Secondary in Singida, Tukuyu Secondary in Mbeya, Nguvumali Secondary in Tanga and Mnolela Secondary School also in Lindi.
