Dar es Salaam Tuesday 4, 2008: The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) today handed over 600 bags of cement worth Tsh 6.9 million to the Tanzania Police Force (TPF) in support of TPF initiative to construct dormitories for members of the police force. The handing over ceremony was held at Kurasini Barracks.

NBC Head of Retail Banking, Johan Vermaas commended the police force for their concerted efforts to ensure that NBC and its clients conduct their business in a secure and peaceful environment.

“Our contribution towards this noble cause may not be sufficient to finish the project, but it is our hope that the cement will go a long way towards the construction of dormitories to house the members of the police force who have been plagued by the lack of adequate housing here in Dar es Salaam”, said Vermaas.

He said NBC felt grateful to be given the opportunity to support the construction of the dormitories and commended the Police Force authorities for realizing the need to provide its staff with reliable housing.  
 
Vermaas said that NBC not only regards the Tanzania Police Force a partner when it comes to security of its 50 branches, but also a good customer.  Policemen and women are now enjoying the benefits of the NBC Group Loan Scheme introduced last year for staff within any organization to get loan from NBC.

In his vote of thanks, Dar es Salaam Police Special Zone Commander Alfred Tibaigana, said the TPF was particularly impressed by NBC’s contribution which would greatly assist in taking their dormitories construction project to a significant level.     

NBC has 50 branches and over 115 VISA enabled ATM’s in the country, providing its customers 24-hours convenient access to their accounts. In addition to other traditional banking services and products, NBC provides full Internet Banking, for retail and corporate clients, further enhancing the capacity of its customers to do their banking from the convenience of their offices or homes.
