PRESS RELEASE

NBC and VODACOM team up and launch recharge services via ATMs

20, September 2006

Adding airtime on prepaid mobile phones will today become easier and more convenient, thanks to a joint effort between Vodacom Tanzania and NBC Ltd.

The two companies have developed a product that will allow prepaid mobile phone users to go to any NBC ATM and pay for additional airtime using their ATM cards. In a process as simple as withdrawing cash, customers can recharge any Vodacom Prepaid number in five easy steps from the 60 NBC ATMs across the country, at any time.

1. Vodacom customers login with their NBC ATM card, at any NBC ATM
2. Select 'Vodacom Recharge' from the menu,
3. Enter the Vodacom Prepaid number to be recharged. E.g. 0754705000,
4. Select the amount to be recharged and confirm.
5. The Vodacom Prepaid number then receives an SMS confirming the recharge.

“The convergence of the very latest technologies has enabled us to herald a new dawn in customer service for Tanzanians”, Vodacom Marketing Manager told a news conference. “We are obviously hugely excited by this innovation and we’d like to share this with our customers,” he said announcing an offer of 5% extra airtime to all customers recharging via the new method between 20 September 2006 and 20 December 2006.

“Vodacom customers will now be able to take advantage of the latest enterprise in e-payment solutions and recharge the credit on their phones from any ATM in NBC’s network of 60 nationwide,” said he. NBC has the largest electronically linked network of 35 branches, strategically located throughout Tanzania. NBC also has the largest ATM network in the country, providing convenient 24-hour banking services allowing millions of Tanzanians to access their money smoothly and safely-another example of NBC’s commitment of bringing convenience banking to Tanzania.

“In the last year alone we have opened 8 stand alone ATMs in Dar es Salaam to service the ever-expanding community of customers, and 4 stand alone ATMs in up country regions” said William Kallaghe NBC Marketing Manager told the press.

“By teaming up with the country’s leading cellular network, Vodacom, our mutual customers can now top up their phones whilst withdrawing cash, we have made the incredible innovations of convergence technology available to Tanzanians on a level that introduces service previously unknown to the country. This is a sign of our joint commitment to redefining customer satisfaction and care. We are proud to have this kind of technology on our side,” he added.

“Our collaboration with Vodacom is also a sign of our sound business sense and responsibility that recognizes the importance of sharing existing infrastructures to ensure Tanzanians benefit to the maximum,” said William Kallaghe.

The new service took effect from 20th September 2006.
