NBC DONATES TSH
4,000,000 TO KAWE PRIMARY SCHOOL
2 November 2005
NBC Tanzania has given a donation to transform
the Department for the Mentally Handicapped at Kawe A Primary
School in Dar es Salaam, as part of their Corporate Social
Responsibility Strategy.
The plan for the donation of Tsh 4,000,000
(USD 3,500) is to set up the school with its first electricity
supply and fully equip it with a TV, radio cassette player,
books, chairs, mattresses, carpets, office chairs and tracksuits
for the 40 children who attend.
“At NBC, we believe in the growth
and development of the communities in which we operate.
Education is one of our key focus areas in as far as corporate
social responsibility is concerned, alongside health and
job-creation. To us, it's not how much we trumpet our own
involvement in community development, but what we do to
help alleviate the scourge of poverty, and to assist in
the health and education delivery system in this country,”
said the bank’s marketing manager William Kallaghe.
“As we hand over this donation to
this very needy school of wonderful children, we would like
to encourage other well wishers, donor organistions and
companies to get involved in community development programmes
throughout the country. Bringing education closer to the
people of Tanzania, especially those with disabilities,
should be one of the priorities of anyone in Tanzania in
the position to help those less fortunate,” he added.
Kawe A Primary School is owned and
maintained by Kinondoni Municipal Council and the department
for disabled children. Mr. Asath Madrere is the head of
department for the mentally handicapped children.
