NBC supports Albino
Enterprises in Dar es Salaam
8 November 2005
The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) Ltd
has donated four sewing machines valued at Tsh 356,000 to
the support group Albino Enterprises in Dar es Salaam, as
part of their Corporate Social Initiative area of job creation.
The donation was part of a concerted effort on the part
of NBC to try and help the most sidelined in society make
a living, and the sewing machines in particular offer members
of the Albino Enterprises the means to start their own business.
Albino Enterprises is a non-governmental
organization that supports people affected with employment
opportunities and advice on related business and medical
issues.
“It is especially of interest to us as a bank to make
sure that no one ends up dependent on handouts and misses
out on their right to participate in the economy,”
said NBC Marketing Manager William Kallaghe. “It is
our duty as one of Tanzania’s leading banks to make
sure we give people the initial help them on their way to
financial independence,” he explained.
“There is no better way to demonstrate
a company's corporate citizenship and commitment to the
development of any community than to get involved in its
daily existence. That includes health and education matters
and in this case, job creation. It is our duty to set a
good example to other corporations and not forget those
members of our community who might usually be overlooked
find it harder to establish their own financial independence.
It is especially of interest to us as a bank to make sure
that no one ends up dependent on handouts and misses out
on their right to participate in the economy”, said
Kallaghe.
NBC Ltd, is one of the largest and most represented commercial
